Congratulations to Allen & Allen paralegal Brooks Godwin, who received the 2023 NALA Affiliate Award!  The National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) held its annual conference last month in Boston, Massachusetts. At the event, Godwin was honored for her dedication to the paralegal profession.

Brooks Godwin

First formed in 1975, NALA is a non-profit organization that’s over 15,000 members strong. They provide multiple opportunities for paralegals to advance in their careers, such as:

  • Connecting with other professionals through continuing education
  • Certification programs
  • Networking opportunities

The Affiliate Award recognized Godwin’s professional efforts and contributions to her profession. She works closely with Richmond attorney Abbigale Bricker on complex personal injury cases. “Brooks is a tremendously experienced and knowledgeable general district court paralegal, always working tirelessly to learn and grow in her role. At the same time, she is always ready and willing to help and teach others what she knows,  in a non-judgmental way, with the primary goal being to strengthen all of us as a  law firm,” said Bricker.

NALA Award for Brooks Godwin

To be eligible to receive the NALA Affiliate Award, a paralegal must:

  • Provide a long-lasting or far-reaching contribution
  • Play a role in developing or advancing programs that benefit the profession or NALA for at least three years
  • Partake in community service projects that create a positive national reputation for paralegals
  • Advance paralegal education
  • Establish a professional development program

“Thank you, NALA, for this national recognition.  It is overwhelming and such an honor to be nominated by my peers.  I have been on this wild paralegal ride for over 25 years and love what I do. I also thank all of you who mentored me over the years and shared so many tools with which to solve a problem and get the job done.  This award is a celebration of our profession.  Without the skills we carry and share – to read, to write, to think and to solve – the legal world would be in a lot of trouble!” said Godwin.

Please join us in congratulating Brooks Godwin on this well-deserved accomplishment!
