All rise! Allen & Allen is proud to announce that attorney Richard C. Armstrong has been sworn in as a Substitute Judge for the 16th Judicial District of Virginia.
A substitute judge presides over cases when a sitting judge is unavailable, helping keep the wheels of justice turning for the courts and the communities they serve. Richard’s appointment to the bench reflects the trust that Virginia’s judicial system has placed in his experience, integrity, and deep knowledge of the law — and it gives him the opportunity to serve the Charlottesville community in a new meaningful way.
Richard has spent nearly four decades dedicated to practicing law. After earning his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, he spent 13 years as a public defender in New York City, first as a staff attorney and later as a supervising attorney in the Legal Aid Society’s Criminal Defense Division. He returned to Virginia in 2000, going on to practice with several Charlottesville-area firms before joining Allen & Allen, where he now serves as a Shareholder and trial attorney handling wrongful death claims, serious car and trucking accidents, and cases involving impaired drivers.
Over the course of his career, Richard has earned an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the organization’s highest distinction, and has been recognized on the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association’s amicus curiae honor roll for his work on friend-of-the-court briefs before the Supreme Court of Virginia.
