Shareholder Derrick L. Walker has been selected for induction into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, one of the most exclusive honors a trial lawyer can receive.
Founded in 1954, the Academy is widely regarded as the world’s foremost trial lawyer organization, dedicated to excellence in advocacy, the highest standards of ethics, and meaningful legal reform. Membership is limited to 500 active trial lawyers in the United States and just over 150 Fellows across 30 countries, representing plaintiffs and defendants alike in civil cases, as well as prosecutors and criminal defense attorneys. An attorney cannot apply for membership, admission comes by nomination only, followed by a rigorous, year-long vetting process that includes confidential inquiries with opposing counsel, judges, and current Fellows of the Academy. For this reason, induction into the Academy is widely considered a defining moment in a trial lawyer’s career. Derrick will be formally inducted at the Academy’s next meeting in March 2027, currently, only thirteen Virginia attorneys, including Allen & Allen President Jason Konvicka, are members of the Academy.
Derrick’s path to this honor was built over 25 years in the courtroom. He has secured numerous multi-million-dollar results for clients in wrongful death, tractor-trailer collision, traumatic brain injury, nursing home negligence, and medical malpractice cases. He holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, has been named a Virginia Super Lawyer, and has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® every year since 2017, including recognition as a “Lawyer of the Year” in both personal injury litigation and medical malpractice.
Beyond his own casework, Derrick has devoted himself to strengthening the broader trial bar. He served as President of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and has served on the Executive Committee of the American Association for Justice for 3 years, currently he serves as Secretary.
