Hometown Heroes Mural

We were honored to collaborate with the students of Lucille M. Brown Middle School and local artist Emma Scarvey on our newest addition to the community: our Hometown Heroes mural. This bold, inspiring piece now lives proudly in the heart of Lucille M. Brown Middle School. It’s a celebration of community, service, and the incredible things that happen when we come together with purpose.

Unveiling this mural is a meaningful moment for us. Beyond the art itself, it’s a tribute to the everyday Hometown Heroes; Virginians who go above and beyond to lift others up by making Virginia a better place to live, work, and play. In the mural, we chose to highlight common themes among our past and present Hometown Heroes. These include education, healthcare, environmental advocacy, and compassion for animals. While this mural reflects the common causes they champion, our Heroes span the community, and so do the causes that they represent.

Painting side by side with the students to bring this vision to life was an experience valued, and one we won’t forget. Their energy, creativity, and curiosity brought a special kind of magic to this project. This mural is not only a tribute to Heroes past and present, it’s also a message to future generations. We hope it serves as a daily reminder to every student walking the halls of Lucille M. Brown Middle School that they, too, have the power to make a difference.

We’re grateful to create something meaningful for our community, and we’re proud of what it represents.
