For 17 years, Allen & Allen has actively supported the Legal Food Frenzy, which helps families in need. This fundraising drive reflects so much of what we value at The Allen Law Firm, and has become one of my favorite firm events. Two weeks of emails flying, challenges posed, cans mounting, and friendly banter in the halls ended this year with over 55,000 pounds of food raised by the Allen Law Firm.
Food insecurity is a crucial issue here in Central Virginia, affecting one out of every nine individuals. This means that 165,000 of our neighbors face hunger on a daily basis. More than 50,000 are children who are not having their nutritional needs met. Every dollar donated, and each can given to the Legal Food Frenzy makes a difference for these families.
The real question is how much can we raise? Each person, each branch office, our firm, and all the law firms across the commonwealth? This year we began our “frenzy” with the lofty goal of raising 49,150 pounds. Each of our seven branch offices (Charlottesville, Chesterfield, Fredericksburg, Mechanicsville, Petersburg, Richmond, and Stafford) had their own goal. We created a goal for the attorneys, as well. When the clock struck midnight on April 28, we brought our campaign to a close, having exceeded our goal by 13%.
I am thrilled to report that every single office achieved their goal, the attorneys met their goal, and the firm collected 5,850 pounds more than our original goal! I am grateful and humbled by the generous support of our incredible team in stepping up to help our communities in a meaningful way. Across Virginia, the 2023 Legal Food Frenzy raised enough to provide 718,000 meals from 32 different firms and legal teams. These contributions benefited Feed More in Richmond, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Charlottesville, and the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank.
We are proud to be part of a network of law firms and legal organizations that join together every year to fight hunger in our cities and towns. There’s a whole lot of fun, a healthy bit of competition, and a lot of dedication goes into creating better communities.
