Malcolm P. McConnell

"Mic" is the lead attorney in the successful and well-regarded medical malpractice section of Allen & Allen, having joined the firm in 2001.

Mic is consistently recognized by trial lawyers around Virginia as one of the most effective, innovative and successful medical malpractice trial lawyers in the state. In August 2007, Mic achieved board certification as a medical malpractice attorney by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys. He has an “AV” rating (the highest available) from the Martindale Hubbell lawyer listing service. In a 1999 poll of Richmond-area attorneys, Mic was voted as a “Top Lawyer,” as published in Richmond magazine.  Since then, he has been voted by Virginia lawyers as one of the Top 5% “Super Lawyers” in Virginia, and has been included by Virginia Lawyers Weekly as lead counsel in their listings of top verdicts for 2003 and 2005. Mic is especially proud to be among the eight attorneys at Allen, Allen, Allen & Allen to be named to Best Lawyers in America, continuing this firm’s 100 year tradition of excellence in representing our clients.

Mic is also active in the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, writing “friend of the court” briefs for the Virginia Supreme Court, lecturing to lawyers around Virginia on the courtroom techniques of the successful trial lawyer, and lobbying the Virginia General Assembly on behalf of the victims of medical negligence. He is also a frequent speaker to lawyer and physician groups on topics of medical malpractice law, the law of evidence, and use of advanced technology in the courtroom. He is the editor and co-author of “Medical Malpractice Law in Virginia,” a handbook of medical malpractice law published by the Virginia Continuing Legal Education Foundation.

Personal

Mic is married to Virginia Epes McConnell. The couple lives in Richmond, Virginia and has a son and daughter who are competitive swimmers.

In 1992, Mic received a Guinness Book world record for swimming in the longest continuous relay swim - 300 consecutive hours. In addition to being a competitive bodybuilder and tri-athlete, he also swam across the Chesapeake Bay four times and also across the mouth of the Potomac River. Mic enjoys political and social history, science fiction and philosophy.

Mic believes the ideal vacation is sightseeing, dining and dancing with his wife and traveling to different cities.
