Johnson & Johnson, the well-known company that manufactures medical devices and pharmaceutical and consumer goods, may be facing some extremely high costs to settle a number of products liability cases. The company is currently dealing with over 46,000 product liability lawsuits involving its pelvic mesh products.[1]<\/a><\/p>\n

Pelvic Mesh Product Liability Settlement Could Lead to Higher Compensation for Pelvic Mesh Victims<\/h2>\n

In January 2016, Johnson & Johnson agreed to settle between 2,000 and 3,000 of these lawsuits for a total of $120 million.[2]<\/a> However, publication of an additional suit, brought by Pamela Wicker, revealed that the company agreed to a $5 million settlement for the single plaintiff in that case.[3]<\/a> Calculating a comparison of individual lawsuits, Wicker\u2019s case settled for far more than the $120 million offer to settle over 2,000 lawsuits. This could mean that the company will be confronted with much higher settlement costs. While Johnson & Johnson officials claimed that the Wicker case \u201cpresented unique circumstances\u201d that allegedly warranted such a large settlement, it still suggests that the company\u2019s liability is very real, and that it is going to be expensive to resolve.<\/p>\n
