Three to five people are currently unaccounted for after an explosion occurred at a gas station located in Buena Vista, Virginia, according to Virginia State Police. One person has been killed and four have been hospitalized.
The explosion happened at 9:50 a.m. Friday morning at the South River Market, located on Old Buena Vista Road. The fire has since been extinguished, and crews are working to put out the remaining hot spots.
In a statement, Sgt. Rick Garletts of the Virginia State Police said: ”At the request of the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Salem, is conducting an investigation into the cause of the explosion, and at this time it does not appear suspicious in nature.”
Police are currently working to account for all the people who may have been in the building at the time of the explosion.
