Allen & Allen Supports Distracted Driving Awareness MonthThe month of April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and the personal injury law firm of Allen, Allen, Allen & Allen has helped to get the word out about distracted driving across the state of Virginia.

There are distracted drivers of all ages on the roads and they are contributing to the greatest driving threat in recent years.

Many campaigns take place during April to help promote awareness of the severity of distracted driving. The National Safety Council (NSC) asks drivers to take the Focused Driver Challenge and pledge to drive cell free. Websites like Distraction.gov and EndDD.org provide shocking statistics and relevant information regarding distracted driving laws.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) [1]:

  • Reaction time is delayed for a driver talking on a cell phone as much as it is for a driver who is legally drunk.
  • More texting leads to more crashes. With each additional 1 million text messages, fatalities from distracted driving rose more than 75%.
  • People under the age of 20 are involved in more fatal crashes due to distractions than any other age group.

At Allen & Allen, our attorneys have partnered with End DD (End Distracted Driving, www.enddd.org) to offer presentations to area high schools, businesses and community organizations with the goal of reducing and preventing distracted driving.
